Practical information
Most people need a visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) to travel to Canada - not both. Some people may only need their valid passport. The Visit Canada website has a short questionnaire to help you find out if you need a visa to travel to Canada.
Be prepared: Apply for an eTA before you book your flight to Canada. Most applicants get approved within minutes. However, some applications can take several days to process so don’t wait until the last minute.
Getting here
An international destination of choice, Montréal is easily accessed by land, water and air. Downtown is a mere 20 minutes from the YUL Montréal-Trudeau International Airport, which welcomes more than 20 million passengers per year and offers over 150 world destinations served by 30 carriers.
With 24-hour service, seven days a week, 365 days a year, the 747 shuttle service offers convenient transportation between the airport and downtown, and with ample space for your luggage. You can also nab a taxi or Uber at the arrivals level.
Getting around
Once you have arrived in Montreal, there are many ways to get to Concordia University and around the city.
By bus or metro
The public transit system, run by the Société de transport de Montréal, is an affordable way to get around Montréal. The metro (subway) system is clean, safe and fast. As a bonus, the public transit network is relatively simple, with just four lines connecting the downtown centre to major tourist sites, bus stops and train stations.
The metro operates daily from 5:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. (1:30 a.m. on Saturdays). The average wait time between trains is eight minutes and three minutes during rush hour.
By bicycle (BIXI rental system)
With nearly 1000 km of pathways around the island, including marked street lanes, travel by cycle is as easy as 1-2-3. Montreal's public bike-rental system, BIXI was created for short trips and is an economical form of city travel.
BIXI is accessible to everyone 24/7, with more than 400 stations, many located in the downtown core. The system is easy to use, just pick up a BIXI at any station and drop it off once you reach your destination.
By Taxi or Uber
Metered taxis and Uber are available. Driving to Concordia University with your own car is not recommended.
