DEADLINE FOR FULL/HALF SLOT TALKS FOR WINECONF AND FOSS XR: 5 SEPTEMBER, 2022

FULL AND HALF SLOT TALK SUBMISSIONS FOR XDC ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTED

The 2022 X.Org Developers Conference (XDC) is being held in conjunction with the 2022 Wine Developers Conference (WineConf) and 2022 FOSS XR. XDC is the annual technical meeting for X Window System and Free Desktop developers. Attendees gather to discuss outstanding technical issues related to the Open Source Graphics stack (Linux kernel, Mesa, DRM, Wayland, X11, etc.) and its software ecosystem. WineConf is the annual technical meeting for developers and supporters of the Wine Project. FOSS XR is the event for Free and Open Source XR developers and enthusiasts interested in all things Free and Open-source XR. This year, the three events are being held together. The events are free to attend and open to the general public.

The conference will consist of several rooms, broken into tracks, with one main track for XDC, one main track for Wine, one main track for FOSS XR and one or two overflow rooms for discussions. There is a defined 'hallway track' which is for time not spent in a formal presentation, but instead speaking in the hallway, or getting coffee. Spurring productive hallway conversations is a key goal for this conference.

The X.Org Program Committee is requesting proposals for talks, workshops and demos at XDC, WineConf and FOSSXR 2022. While any serious proposal will be gratefully considered, topics of interest to X.Org, freedesktop.org, winehq.org, and fossxr.dev developers are encouraged. The program focus is on new development, ongoing challenges and anything else that will spark discussions among attendees in the hallway track. Additionally while proposals for pre-recorded or virtual presentations can be submitted, as of writing, we have a strong preference for in-person talks. We are specifically looking for the following:

  • Talk (full slot, Wineconf and FOSS XR only)
Technical presentation in a main conference track, with around 35 minutes of presentation plus 10 minutes of Q&A. This can be anything: a talk about work-in-progress, a proposal for change, analysis of trends, etc.

  • Talk (half slot, Wineconf and FOSS XR only)
Technical presentation in a main conference track, with around 15 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes of Q&A. This can be anything: a talk about work-in-progress, a proposal for change, analysis of trends, etc.

  • Demo (10 minutes)
We will try to schedule them early and have a demo place throughout the conference.

  • Lightning Talk (5 minutes)
Scheduled throughout the conference in the main track. Any hallway track discussions summaries have priority.

  • Workshop Discussion Topic
Discussion topic for a smaller group. Ideally two people submit a proposal, one to lead the discussion and make sure it stays on track, second person to keep notes. Please mention relevant talk submissions for the main track that should kick of the discussion. These talks will be scheduled early in the conference program. Summary of the discussion will be presented at the end of the conference in a lightning talk.

Presenters for Wineconf and FOSS XR will be selected from those who submit before the deadline: Sept 05, 2022. There is usually time left for late talk proposals, but do not count on it. Please do submit your proposal in a timely fashion. You can submit Workshop, Demo and Lightning Talk proposals any time, even during the conference.

Both X.Org and Wine have generous travel sponsoring funds with the goal to allow anyone with interest in attending this conference to do so. Any program proposal will be considered for a grant, please include your request in your submission. Grants are approved independently of program acceptance.

Note: You will need to login, or create an account, to submit a proposal.
